Implementing Migration Policies to Action
The West Java Manpower Office proposed the development of Pre-Migration Orientation Seminar (PMOS) for prospective migrants in Indonesia. The training module was designed by Atikha in consultation with the West Java Manpower Office after the conduct of a training needs assessment.
The West Java Manpower Office requested for the training from GAMD to learn from the experiences of NGOs and local governments in the Philippines in mainstreaming migration in local governance. Atikha, a member NGO of GAMD designed the training program in collaboration with GAMD consultants from the Philippines and Indonesia.
51 participants from 11 countries representing Indonesia, Philippines, Mexico, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Vietnam, Ecuador, and Germany.
There were 50 participants representing 11 countries participated in the Peer to Peer (P2P) Learning in Pullman Hotel in Ciawi – Bogor conducted last 16-20 September 2019. The theme of the P2P was: A World on the Move: Enriching Migration Cycle for the Benefit of All. The training was organized by the Global Academy on Migration and Development in partnership with Atikha, a non-government organization implementing migration and development initiatives based in the Philippines and the GIZ, an international development cooperation agency based in Germany. The peer to peer is sharing and learning from other migration experts.
Participants of the Peer to Peer Learning in Indonesia were inspired by the success of the 3×1 program in Mexico and were interested in replicating the 3×1 Program of Federacion Zacatecas. A Global Field School is being organized in Zacatecas Mexico for June 2020 by the Global Academy on Migration and Development. The interested countries to participate in the Global Field School in Mexico are migration stakeholders from the Philippines, Nepal and Indonesia.
“One of the challenges of implementing migration and development policies is the lack of training of front line staff to implement initiatives on migration and development. Although there are initiatives in setting up migration committees and one stop resource centers for migrants and families, oftentimes, they lack coherent and relevant program that will address the issues and maximize the opportunities from working abroad for the development of their migrants, their families and communities” explains Mai Dizon Anonuevo, executive director of Atikha.
